Emergency & Safety Guide

Parents and Guardians Have a Key Role in Emergency Response

During and following an emergency situation, school and district officials must act quickly and follow established emergency protocols to safeguard students and staff, secure schools, and communicate accurate information in a timely manner. Parents can assist greatly by helping with preparation before the emergency.

Student Safety

The Water's Edge crosswalk was improved for student safety. Pedestrian signals were installed. Students should push the button to activate the signal. They still need to wear helmets and get off their bikes and walk through the cross walk when prompted.

Security Plan

Important Reminders:

- We welcome visitors to our campus. However, per school and district policy, all visitors must check in at the Main Office, present valid ID, and receive an identification badge before entering any other area of the school, including the classrooms. Visitors are required to wear an identification badge while on campus. Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep our children safe.

- We cannot guarantee the supervision of our students before 8:30 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m. unless the students are part of an organized group such as a school club. Thank you for arranging transportation accordingly.

- Thank you for driving slowly and cautiously through our parent parking lot, especially during arrival and dismissal. The east loop, Heikka Circle, is designated for parent drop-off and pick-up, since the west loop is for buses only. For the safety of our students, please do not park in the east lot to have students exit or enter your vehicle. Students may not cross the loop to or from the parking lot. Thank you for not parking on the grass. We wish to keep our campus looking nice for many years to come.

- All vehicles in Creekside’s parking lot should be locked. This includes employees, parents and volunteers.

- The House Leaders function as principals for their grade levels. Please feel free to call them with your questions or concerns at any time.

- Emergency cards will be checked when early release of students is requested and when it is necessary to contact parents or guardians in an emergency. If any names/numbers need to be corrected during the school year, please contact Ms. Potts in the main office.

- Students will be released only to those individuals whose names appear on the emergency card. Students will not be called out of class for an early dismissal until the parent/guardian has arrived on campus. We do this to protect instructional time. Please allow extra time when checking your child out of school early. Thank you for your help with this.

- If medicine is to be administered during school hours, a medical authorization form must be completed by the physician and returned to our clinic in Building 1. Medication cannot be administered unless this form is on file.

- Additional forms may be obtained in the Clinic or House Office. It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to bring in refills.

- Please have students check the stage in the cafeteria and the grade house for lost items. It is our desire to return items to the rightful owners. However, because we do not have the space to store items, unclaimed belongings will be donated to charity periodically.

School Volunteers

- For the safety of our students, Volunteer Application Forms are required to be completed and cleared for any individual who wishes to volunteer in any capacity at Creekside Middle School. Please note that there is a processing time of approximately two weeks from the date of submission. Once we receive clearance from the district, you may begin volunteering at our school.

Bullying/Harassment

- Creekside Middle School has a zero tolerance policy as it pertains to bullying and harassment. Students experiencing any form of bullying or harassment are asked to report these incidents immediately to school administration. Appropriate punishment will be given to guilty students.
